The results link the chemical composition of rGO to the synthesis procedure of the original GO and then build on this to design a physical model at the microscale. Small and wide angle scattering is used to characterise the structure at the meso- and macroscale. Many different processing conditions are examined, with a specific focus on the role of oxidation and drying. Further, 'in situ' experimental methods are used to investigate how the hydration level impacts the structure of rGO hydrogel films.
