It demonstrates that if certain independently plausible views such as time discounting and Prioritarianism are combined they will advocate inconsistent and self-defeating courses of action. The thesis outlines a set of criteria that, if adhered to, would allow these views to be combined without generating problematic results. The particular moral views discussed here are of interest because they are frequently represented in frameworks used for evaluating policy in the areas of public health funding and climate change mitigation.
