Iraqi Muslim Immigrant Women’s access to Women-Only English Classes in Australia ABDILAHHASSAN MAHDI 2017 This qualitative case study examines the access of Iraqi Muslim Immigrant Women to the women-only English literacy programs in Australia. The research participants are eight Iraqi Muslim Immigrant Women who arrived in Melbourne, Victoria within the last five years. Data were collected in two stages, involving questionnaire and both individual and focus group interviews. Factors such as single-gender environment, the availability, proximity and access to support networks and flexibility of time were found to likely increase their access into the women-only English classes. Nevertheless, factors such as lack of information and limited provision of such classes were reported as obstacles
