Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Bangladesh: Cost-of-illness and Complications AFSANA AFROZ 10.26180/5e65a9cab4f39 https://bridges.monash.edu/articles/thesis/Type_2_Diabetes_Mellitus_in_Bangladesh_Cost-of-illness_and_Complications/11955261 Diabetes is one of the leading non-communicable diseases of 21st century, which contributes 1.6 million to the global death toll of 41 million every year. However, scientific evidence regarding type 2 diabetes, especially in low- and lower-middle-income countries is limited. In the context of Bangladesh (a low income country in South Asia), this doctoral thesis addressed several significant gaps in the literature within the scope of cost-of-illness, diabetes related macro- and micro-vascular complications and their effect on total cost, poor glycaemic control and their associated factors, and the impact of diabetes on the economy of Bangladesh. The insights drawn from this thesis may prove useful to policymakers, clinicians, patients and their families. 2020-03-09 02:28:24 Type 2 diabetes Bangladesh Cost-of-Illness Complications Low- and lower-middle income countries Public Health and Health Services not elsewhere classified Biostatistics Epidemiology
