Declining ore grades and increasing demand is stressing the mining industry and are making conventional mining increasingly uneconomic. In-situ leaching (ISL) is an alternative mining technology, which could potentially lower the carbon footprint and the cost of conventional mines. However, ISL is limited by the permeability of the mineral-bearing rock. This thesis develops a non-explosive rock fracturing compound for permeability enhanced ISL of mineral-bearing rock.
